THE BEST FALAFEL RECIPE | crispy fried and baked falafel (vegan)

Thanks! Share it with your friends!

Are you ready for the best falafel you've ever tasted (whether fried or baked)? Falafel are delicious balls of chickpea and herb goodness that you find in Middle Eastern cooking.

I've had my fair share of falafel on travels through Egypt, Israel and Jordan. I've had them in restaurants and on street corners (the best authentic street food). I've had them stuffed in gluten-free pita and on salads. And I've had them with slight variations and tweaks, though the recipe itself is fairly simple.

But here's how you make the best falafel recipe – add tons of herbs (double the normal amount) and a small amount of green pepper. This makes for an addictive flavor that's "a little something extra" but not spicy. Just insanely delicious.

Falafel are naturally vegan and vegetarian. You can then deep fry the falafel, pan fry or make baked falafel. It's up to you! Just don't forget to drizzle with my tahini sauce. 😉 Enjoy!

Downshiftology says:

Hi friends! I’m excited to finally share this video (I’ve been working on this recipe for quite a while!). These falafel are delicious and have SO much flavor. But I’d love to hear…which method is your favorite to cook them? It’s always a toss up for me. 🙂 Hope you’re enjoying your summer! xo – Lisa

Mariajosé Balboa says:

You were not kidding. This is the best falafel I’ve ever eaten. Great recipe!

Jionkan says:

What is roughly the Falafel yield from 1 cup dried chickpeas? Thank you.

Char Covelesky says:

I have to avoid oil for health reasons, do you think these would hold together in an air fryer?

Walid Karim says:

@twirliegrrl21 Parsley is an alternative, you’d not have to add cilantro at all

Gehad Elnashar says:

The best falafel is the Egyptian one which made of beans

mariam kamal says:

Here in Egypt, Falafel is the king on our breakfast table, I usually homemake it whether with “crushed beans” or “chickpeas”, and personally prefer to eat it with Harissa, tahini or tomatoes salad garnished with garlic and parsley .
But recently I developed a healthy recipe of Falafel, and I baked them in the over on a silicone mat without using oil.
Try to sprinkle some sesame seeds on top of your Falafel before putting it in the oven, the aftertaste of the roasted sesame seed will make the dish sheer heaven.

Clarice Aust says:

@Solutions Within I was soaking them, then boiling them – that was the problem.

Clarice Aust says:

@Maria Jose Garcia Don’t boil them – just soak 12-24 hours & food-process, add spices, mold & bake/fry. Gus Baz, above, gives full instructions.

Maria Jose Garcia says:

Clarice Aust I did everything following the instructions, I didn’t boil the chickpeas I just soaked them overnight, but the mixture won’t bind together to form the patties , I don’t know if it needs more flour or same water

Chuck says:

…silicone mat and topping with sesame seeds are great ideas.

A J says:

Mine did fall apart once or twice even after adding chick pea flour so I’ve been adding the salt at the end right before frying so the mixture doesn’t give out water

Mrs. Dash says:

I was just eating 2 falafel when your notification came through!

Downshiftology says:

Oh funny! Great minds. 😉

Racquel Taylor says:

This is SO well researched and thought out. Thank you so much for all of the time and energy put into this! I can’t wait to try it!!

Downshiftology says:

Thank you Racquel! I hope you enjoy my recipe. 🙂

Athanasia Tsimpoura says:

I am so glad u posted this!! they look healthy and delicious For the flour can I use a normal flour and if so how much?? because they don't have gluten free options in my country (where I live at least)

Downshiftology says:

Yes, you can use any flour for the most part. And I’d try subbing on a 1:1 basis.

Huda Ghassan says:

Very good..I personally use my air frier it takes 20 min on medium heat to cook .It is fluffy and much healthier.

Huda Ghassan says:

@Downshiftology Thanks to you for all recipies.Hope you can do a healthy mayo please🙏🙏

THINK LIKE BAMBOO says:

Huda Ghassan I love my airfryer! Best thing everrrr

Ka Ri Na says:

@THINK LIKE BAMBOO What air fryer do you have?

Dacudo Ragnarök says:

Honestly frying it in a bit of Advacado oil isn’t going to bring any real damage. The oil is designed to handle high heats without breaking down.

But she doesn’t need to deep fry it, a simple skillet works just as well.

And air fryer tend to remove the moisture of the center.

Liz Mon_Soo says:

Thanks for sharing! I was wondering if i can make it with air frier thank you alot!

Lucie Gallagher says:

Oh my goodness! They look amazing! I’m travelling at the moment (Vancouver Island) but I’m definitely making these once I’m home!!!! Thank you 😊 xxx

Downshiftology says:

Hope you enjoy them Lucie. And safe travels! x

Yaman Shashaa says:

I’m palestinian🇵🇸 my mom used to make this kind of tomato tahini sauce( chopped tomatoes, tahini, lemon juice, salt & maybe black pepper, few tablespoons of water) it goes really well with falafels so delicious and it makes swallowing falafels so much easier👌🏼😁💦

xx yy says:

Tip for those who do not have chickpea flour; roast the dry chickpeas in the pan for a while, then cool it down and blend into powder. Then sift it through a sieve.

Me and the boys at 2am Lookin for B E A N S says:

xx yy you can just buy chickpea flour

Solutions Within says:

@Hasbeth Perez she roasts them first so they’re not raw. another channel the lady soaks them overnight first, then puts them into food processor.

fairy gal says:

Thank u so much. I was thinking to replace it with gram flour. Arent they same dnt knw🤷‍♀️

Lorraine Williams says:

I used AP flour. Worked perfectly.

April Bennett says:

Might not even need to add any, at any rate. My batch didn’t. When my chickpeas were finished being processed and I spooned it out, I noticed that it was already holding together pretty well. It ended up being perfect.

Katherine says:

Looks great. I will try this recipe. Thank you Miss beauty!

Using avocado oil for frying might be the most decadent thing that i have ever seen :’D

Totally agree. And I just unsubscribed from the channel.

Tintin Milou says:

Shalom 🇮🇱

April Bennett says:

@Moses D In the USA, sunflower oil can be more expensive than avocado oil. It depends on availability. The prices of avocado oil can be quite low here, because the market is oversaturated.

Cornelia Voigt says:

@taghreed rulia so what – she is a pro and so she has nice gear. Dont be jeallous.

ndorib says:

@J T vegetable oil. Sunflower oil, for example.

Downshiftology says:

Enjoy this recipe Cathy 😊

Phoenix Wiseman says:

How rich do you wanna be?

Me: rich enough to deep fry stuff in avocado oil

April Bennett says:

Avocado oil isn’t that expensive. Not anymore, at any rate. You can get 24 oz for $10 at Walmart. Cheaper than Smirnoff.

Crystal Ricotta says:

They sell Avocado oil at Grocery Outlet these days 🥑🥑🥑

Master Of puppets says:
