Sarah's Vegan Kitchen says:

Starch-based is for sure the best on a budget! Potatoes, beans, rice and pasta are dirt cheap. You’ve inspired me to try out a challenge like this. 😀

Smileysue74 says:

I try but sometimes fail at being vegan but I don’t give myself grief about it. I noticed that a lot of products like from MorningStar have whey in them but I still buy it just because it’s better than nothing and it’s basically a by-product. We do the best we can and at the end of the day, we feel better for the sacrifices we make but it’s counterproductive to kill ourselves in the process.

Smileysue74 says:

I feel a loyalty to Morning Star since it was basically the only line of vegetarian food available at the grocery store when I quit eating meat 25 years ago. The black bean burgers are good, especially with salsa~!

Marcus Keef says:

Starch should be the *last* thing you buy and eat.

Devan Williams says:

Marcus Keef Why. I’m listening.

Lily Poppy says:

Starch makes me very tired good to eat before bedtime cuz I will fall asleep… especially potatoes omg…. prolly sleep the next day too… and juiced raw potato… Straight to bed.

Mal Milligan says:

Great ideas. I like the randomness too based on available ingredients.

Anmol S says:

Why do you have a check?

Karla Cienfuegos says:

Excited to explore your channel. I am not a vegetarian nor a vegan. But as I get older I have started to notice that dairy makes me feel like ish.. and meat is so hard to digest. I have given up dairy and now I’m thinking of giving up chicken and turkey for good which is what I usually eat for meats. Excited to eat healthier 🙂

kelsie danner says:

you are so pretty 🥺

Jessie Hussey says:

Same thing I am not a vegan or even a vegetarian but I watch this stuff anyway reasons why are
. I want to save the earth by not eating whatever animals are killed for but I love chicken and pork and honey so much and I don’t like tofu so I’m seeing what other vegans like to eat and find new recipes and maybe try it
. I want to own kids and I heard they like hamburgers and chicken nuggets so much but they feel so bad that they are eating dead animals so I wanna put them on vegan or vegetarian diet but Try to find some special meals that aren’t killing animals but they still like
. I don’t like beef I think it’s so overrated really if it’s halfway cooked then I don’t like the taste but if it’s well done I don’t like the texture which beef is bad for you and so bad for the earth anyway so I try to avoid cow but mom won’t let me give up milk and almost every food in stores has gelatin in it which is made from cows feet so I want to give up cow when I move out

Alyson onOahu says:

Right on!! Welcome!!!

Castledark Dweller says:

@Anna Livia yes thats what i discovered too. Oat milk has the mildest taste of all the plant milks i tried, contributing little flavour to my coffee, which is what i want.
However, after all my testing comparisons, I found there was ONE exception. IF you are RICH, try BONSOY.
OMG! that stuff is pure HEAVEN! In my opinion, it clearly has an aftertaste of CONDENSED MILK!
It makes a coffee taste like a luxurious treat. (costs anything from $4 to $6 per litre here in australia)
Recently i won $5 on a scratch ticket given to me in a card. i bought a carton of bonsoy with it, poured a cup onto my porridge, drank a whole cup with my vegemite toast, and the other half litre was spent in coffees over the next couple days. DELICIOUS!

Elena Rusinko says:

You will feel so much better dropping dairy. Good luck on your journey.

Joanne N S says:

i buy the garbanzo and lentils uncooked bags for like $1.50 and after cooked you have more quantity of food than buying cans, of course this is not for lazy vegans 😛

Edith says:

Slow cook them while you sleep (:

2021 says:

The only reason I buy canned is that I don’t have stomach distress like I do when I slow-cook my own….even after draining/rinsing again after they boil 3 minutes and putting in fresh water and slow cook for hours on the stove top. Canned is the only way I can eat a moderate amount of any kind of legume.

Alyson onOahu says:

Omg I put it in my rice cooker
Add water
Click on as Nd boom its done

Alyson onOahu says:

Dont have to pre soak lentils

Alyson onOahu says:

@Kay K exactly what I do

Kathy Trithardt says:

Dunno where you are in Canada, but I am jealous you got that tofu for $2.50, as I’m on the west coast and have never seen it under $6.

Kayla Lambert says:

In Maine our tofu at market basket is 99cents

Bella Mya says:

In connecticut the cheapest it’s $2

Katherine Walker says:

It’s like 2.50 here in the mid west

Alyson onOahu says:

$1.99- $2.99 in Hawaii..!!!!

Priscilla Mejia says:

I get tofu for no more than $2, I’m from CA

mua usa says:

love ur vids! im a cheap lazy vegitarian trying to cut the dairy down

hello is it me youre looking for says:

Tips for eating vegan or clean eating:
1. Learn how to store your vegetables and fruits so they last as long as possible
2. Clean, cut, dice, chop and store your veges when first bought. Less work for meal time, so you’ll be less likely to fall off the wagon.

ManiacalMind says:

Free Spirit I feel like this is wholly dependent on the temperature on your house though. My mom does this and everything lasts long and is fine for a while… mine don’t last more than 3 days…

Every time I need something I always buy it the same day, which gets expensive and it’s such a bother to have to go to the store almost everyday.

Everything goes bad in my house and fridge.

N A says:

@ManiacalMind maybe consider putting stuff in the freezer then? Just buy fresh stuff and wash, cut and freeze

Kyle Wilson says:

hello is it me youre looking for you actually shouldn’t wash veggies until you’re ready to eat them.

Kyle Wilson says:

Debbie store it in a container with water that helps.

Keana M.S. says:

Wow never thought of this!! Thanks

Liddy Cirilo says:

This is why I love HEB compared to Walmart where I live. Much cheaper and the produce is always more fresh! ❤️

Holly Bophin says:

I’ve become skilled in stretching $30 for 2 people over 1.5-2 weeks. I pretty much exclusively shop at Aldi and Trader Joe’s. I’ve learned the rotation of in-season produce and plan my meals around what’s cheap and fresh. Even if I had more money, I don’t think I’d change much! Maybe just buy more fruits and nuts for snacking, or I’d buy my fresh veggies at the farmer’s market. I love that I’ve learned to live on a budget, meal plan, and avoid waste 🙂

Anna B says:

I feed our family of five for 100 a week using Aldi, love it there.

Elenor Elaine Minguez de Guzman says:

Aldi have a great fruits I think

Dose Of Dior says:

Haley Smith I just discovered trader joe’s today, definitely going to try them out. I love aldi for the prices, good cheap finds.

Nataleigh Elizabeth says:

Yo help a girl out please and send me your rotations and meal plans 😂

John Bishop says:

Fun fact: Trader Joe’s and Aldi are the same store. They are both German and were both owned by the same family (though it appears that only TJ is still owned by the family).

Back home in Germany, they’re called Aldi Nord (Aldi North, Trader Joe’s) and Aldi Süd (Aldi South, Aldi)

Ed V says:

Did the math. This provides about 1,560 calories per day at a cost of approximately 380 calories per dollar. Not bad.

diana povero says:

@Jessica Slater It’s dialect most of the U. K. say “maths” American English syntax does not exist everywhere.

Erica says:

@Jessica Slater “Maths” is perfectly correct in British English. It’s short for the word “mathematics”, so it is abbreviated as “maths” in British English. Nothing grammatically wrong with it, just like there’s nothing wrong with the words colour, flavour, tyre, centre, manoeuvre, etc. in British English and many other forms of English.

Jessica Slater says:

@Erica I never said “Maths” was incorrect. I said that because “math” in American English is short for “mathematics,” which is already plural, pluralizing it wouldn’t make much sense for someone speaking American English. Obviously, “Maths” is acceptable for a British English speaker, but correcting someone from America when they say “Math” instead of “Maths” doesn’t make any sense.

Erica says:

@Jessica Slater You had no way of knowing where the commenter was from when you first commented. 🤷‍♀️ There’s no need to impose American English spellings, especially when the video you’re commenting on wasn’t even made by an American. 😂 Sorry that “maths” sounded odd to your sensitive American ears. Now, please excuse me, my mate asked me for a favour: she got a flat tyre on the way to her maths class this morning, didn’t have a spare in the boot, so she asked me to call her a black cab to pick her up. Her alarm clock is broken so I told her I’d come round and knock her up early tomorrow morning so she isn’t late for her maths lesson. We’ll probably go back to my flat for elevenses afterward. I haven’t seen her in well over a fortnight, so I’m well chuffed that we have plans. That maths class has been taking up all her time lately!

Taylor says:

Just for the record, to everyone arguing over the “maths” comment, I laughed out loud when I read it, because I got the joke. If you don’t get it, there’s no reason to go on about it. Just go laugh at the jokes you are familiar with. The world will be a happier place.

Carly Little says:

When the bag made noise at 5:00, my rabbit ran to me because she thought I was opening her treats. 😂

Cheap Lazy Vegan says:

+Carly Little that is so cute 😍😍😍

Cintia Pollock says:

omg that’s so cute

Alyson onOahu says:

How cute

TheSongBirdRainStar says:

I’m laughing so hard imagining this😭😭😭❤️

jasmine schulte says:

mini heart attack at how much water she added to that oatmeal like girl thats soup

josefina Poblacion says:

Some people like their oatneal soupy

Spartan2x says:

@Hannah McLaughlin Vegan is a lifestyle, not a diet. Plant Based Diet is the vegan diet without the lifestyle aspects of being vegan.

Levi says:

I actually think it was ok…it didn’t bother me. It’s a matter of personal preference

marisha mcdowell says:

I use to eat chunky dry oatmeal because I still tasted the sugar but now I water mines down as well. It taste good that way when u add nuts and fruit

Sunshine ! says:

Lifetime breakfast struggle in our family – some like it thick, some like it soupy. Each to their own.

Momera says:

Tip: I discovered that frozen corn is cheaper and tastes INFINITELY better than canned corn. It tastes like fresh corn 😀 blegh canned corn tastes so weird

Also if you want to save money on veggies, frozen are way cheaper than fresh, and as long as you cook them, they taste basically the same as fresh

Chatoyancify says:

The problem is the huge nutrient loss. It’s steamed, then frozen, then reheated by you. If you do a week meal plan, then it’s reheated by you twice. That’s a lot of processing.

Lindsey Bush says:

Your not wrong I have about 5 bags of frozen corn I use it a lot

diana povero says:

@Kayleen This is true IQF ( individually quick frozen) fruits and veg are processed & packaged in the field or very nearby. The aveage piece of produce in the U.S. travels about 1300 miles to get to the store.

Emily DeStigter says:

I wanna meet the person who ate the frozen veggies still frozen and complained.

Momera says:

@Jessica That’s true but I mostly buy frozen things in bulk. So the amount of corn I get in 1 frozen bag from Costco is equivalent to several cans. Recycling is still a pretty energy-intensive process, so frozen might be better for the environment in that case? I wish there was a way to buy frozen food without all the waste!

Meow 8147 says:

0:55 “okay we’re at walmart” said that like u were on a mission 😂

Elizabeth A says:

It’s so crazy, I looked in my kitchen and I have all the ingredients to make the pasta. Right away I started cooking and it smells delicious. I’m so glad I stumbled upon this video 😊

Alyson onOahu says:

Right on!!!!

Its yummy
Cheap
And vegan

LittleRockQueen14 says:

so.. they put a plastic bag over another plastic pack instead of just put on a sticker or make a new price tag on the shelf. this amout of plastic trash makes me sick. this is not agains you, its against the stores producing so much unnesseccery trash.

sharon anderson says:

@ÆRØ ŒM you need to get on their high horse you dimwitted bimbo and your dimwitted bimbo friends. You work for DOW chemicals? The God damned oceans are choking from trash and pollution and dimwit they provide most of the FREE oxygen you breathe.

sharon anderson says:

@Lela she had to choose between thrift or zero waste and those two things are unfortunately not comparable. But while I like her and get a lot of ideas from her She is NOT enviormentaly aware. Which hurts animal life more than hunting does.

sharon anderson says:

@Asura Heterodyne no they won’t take initiative nor swallow the cost. But the consumer does.

Foodisgood That'sthetruth says:

I thought that too

Patricia Burton says:

Sounds like a great idea, but I would rather spend a few dollars more to buy organic as much as possible. Corn, oats and wheat are most heavily sprayed and GMO products on the mkt. Plus…. it’s wayyyy too much plastic!!! Adds insult to injury….

Angel says:

my only comment is to carefully read the ingredient list on the “packets” of seasonings….esp if you’re vegetarian, vegan, gluten sensitive, etc. Manufacturers get sneaky with those packages…

C H says:

And soooo much salt

Connor Van Dusen says:

Just bought made and armor this soooo 🔥🔥 I thought vegan was expensive but nope I’m hooked let’s help the animals and save the world woo hoo

Jose Padilla says:

I love how practical and real these recipients are. Ain’t no one got the time & money to make a gourmet meal every night.

it's a brenda says:

In case anyone wants it in a list
Instant oatmeal
Bananas
Corn
Broccoli
Baby Spinach
Penne Pasta
Diced tomatoes
Chick peas
Dijon mustard
Olives
Black beans
Brown rice
Smoked Tofu
Taco seasoning

Elena Rusinko says:

Thank you!

Neil Yaremchuk says:

Ideally you build up pantry spices and staples and amortize those costs over weeks and months. Comes down to pennies on the dollar. You wouldn’t necessarily buy spices every week. A good bulk food store will save you huge dollars and free up money for fresh vegetables.

MoonlightDreams says:

Thank you!!!!💞

Happy Happy says:

Thank you❤️

Jay Carlo Tamayo says:

Thanks!
