Anyone going to talk about that editing in the spice bowl?! 😳
@T : you can find it on the website but yeah would have been nice
Are you familiar with the VEGAN DETERIORATION YouTube channel?
@Yvonne Mariane Well it is unfortunately true. The world is racist.
It was UH-MAZING, MESMERIZING!!!! And very helpful, too😊
I love that!! I actually went back to see what each was n looked like.
As someone who used to get teased as a kid for bringing Indian food to school, and now as an adult gets requests from friends to make Indian food I’m so happy to see you teaching everyone how to make a simple dal. Let’s make everyone’s house smell like curry!
Just a couple of things, if one is not allergic to peanuts, using coldpressed peanut oil to sauté spices in actually gives a lot of additional flavor.
If you sauté a small amount of ural dal or some cashews, it will give a slight crunchy feel at times to the dal. A little bit of textural variety, I guess this is why Indian moms are always yelling at us to not forget the tadka!
I love the coconut milk idea, that’s brilliant!
Incidentally my grandmother did not eat onions or garlic for spiritual reasons. What I’ve been told is that if you add asafoetida (hing) that actually can substitute for that flavor.
You have inspired me try this in an instant pot (which has been sitting unused in my kitchen for at least a year) 😊
Thanks for the tip about adding some cashews. I really loved the crunchy texture.
Thank you sarathy for that lovely addition ❤
If you haven’t used ur Instant Pot.. I almost bought one, but on the box is says you may come in contact with known carcinogens. :-/ I knew the gadget seemed too good to be true.
nothing better than an Instant pot for Indian cooking.. try it.. you never will cook differently anymore !!
My house definitely smells like an Indian kitchen i.e. delicious!
HOLY. CRAP. I made this for my family for dinner tonight and it is hands down the best dish I have ever made, possibly best dish I’ve ever eaten in my life. Sooooo delicious, it’s like better than restaurant quality. Also shockingly easy to clean up after, too! THANK YOU NISHA!!!! Will be making this again very very very soon
@T : under the video there’s a link to her website with full recipe
@Finn O’Mara thank you 😊 I realised after I had asked the question
I made something similar last night. It was a sweet potato and lentil curry…I have dried beans and lentils, so used dry lentils…I didn’t cook them for log enough 😹😹😹😹they should soften in the fridge overnight though, so maybe today (it’s 00:26am here right now) it’s be smoother/mushier :’)
Good to see more of these curry videos..
Made this twice now. So tasty! And easy. I swapped almond butter for peanut butter the second time. Both are good.
I will be making this for years to come 😊
people arent skeptical about the taste of vegan food tho .. they are skeptical about the health effects. veganism kills people . it can destroy health unless you are very very lucky . anyone can be weaned onto flavurs but health is the thing which matters . Veganism doesnt work yet for most people sadly .
Just made this now ,and it is one of the most delicious things l have ever made.Thank you so much👏🏻
that’s so awesome to hear! I’m so happy you loved it so much!
“Well it doesn’t smell like dry meatloaf” 🤣🤣🤣 I’m deaddddddd
Lol yeah that stinks bad..
😅😅😅😅😅
Never had meatloaf but it just looks like it smells bad 😆
I always had an aversion to the smell of omni leftovers. I feel like my vegan leftovers are much less unappealing as far as the smell.
Loved it! Lol 🙂
“baby mouth” I’m crying 😂 (and not from the spice) This going in my permanent vocabulary!
Quartrinity=”OKAY…WE’RE DONE HERE!” Chef, you had me crack up with that response🤣
I thought it was kinda rude..
You two are obviously new to the channel and also have no sense of humor
@Eric Babcock , That’s funny to you, whatever.
I agree with Erin—to the person who would NEVER talk to her husband this way…no one cares. You probably have a boring marriage. Get a sense of humor. She almost always takes his feedback but in this case she just decided to joke with him and his word no one knows. I replayed this about 4 times and cracked up each time! Perfection.
@psych attack lol their comments were so weird, I thought maybe they were being facetious. But, nope they’re for real, which is scary. Shouldn’t judge based on just those comments, but I’m wondering why they’d even be watching this channel. I’m thinking bc of “vegan skeptic” in the title
i just made this and it is SO DELICIOUS !! i‘m not vegan but i‘m trying to eat less meat and animal products, so this was just perfect! my family loved it as well and i‘m definitely going to make it again. thank you so much for this recipe !!
You are a godsend. My girlfriend recently has been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease and been on a very strict vegan diet. I’ve been looking around for dinner ideas and can’t thank you enough for the help.
@mellouw how is she doing after a year on vegan?
@Angela Mandato Unless your “miracle healing” is actually just going to a doctor and getting a levothyroxine prescription, I’m gonna say…no thanks
In the hope it helps your girlfriend I’ll share my my ex-girlfriend’s experience after she was diagnosed with Hashimoto’s Thyroiditis a few years back.
First she went (mostly) gluten free, was pretty much vegetarian/vegan, only ate a little bit of dairy or fish on rare occasions. She was on a small dosage of levothyroxine and her results every few months with the doctors would vary – sometimes up and sometimes down.
About a year and a half ago she started (and then finished) a one year training in Ayurveda and has had access to a couple of experienced Ayurvedic doctors since then. It seems this has been the main thing which has helped her. Healing can be a deeper science than we’re often led to believe and working with someone experienced in natural and holistic healing modality could be something to consider.
Just taking medication will help reduce symptoms but it’s unlikely to get to the root of things. I’ve also heard of people with mercury fillings having them removed and the Hashimoto’s clearing up. I’m afraid I don’t have much to back that last claim up but I share it in case it may be a factor to consider.
Wishing her all the best in her journey. Feel free to ask anything if you think it could be helpful.
Heya, I can highly recommend this channel on youtube: pickuplimes
Absolutely delicious meals, I’ve tried a lot of them and they all taste really well. 👌
You are the sweetest partner to be looking around to find ways to help your girlfriend deal with her health problems. I remember when I was diagnosed with Graves my (now ex) boyfriend treated me like a burden and then cheated on me LOL (I’m not looking for sympathy since I look back on it now thinking I dodged a bullet but it was interesting to note the differences between our situations haha). Keep being supportive for her, I’m sure she greatly appreciates it! 😊
This recipe was super easy and delicious. Its actually given me so much more confidence in the kitchen. Can’t wait to try more from you! Thank you!
That’s such fabulous news – I love to hear that it made you feel more confident in the kitchen. Can’t wait to hear what you make next 🙂
I usually make curry with tons and tons of butter and chicken but this turned out tastier, richer, and more satisfying than any curry I’ve ever had. Bless you 😭
That’s so fantastic to hear 🙂 I’m so glad you loved this plant-based version so much!
And yet it tastes buttery delicious!
when i saw that coconut cream and almond butter going in i knew it was gonna be chefs kiss
All those kids that complained that your house smells like curry now are all “bougie” and “worldly” because they know of 1 curry restaurant that they pay way too much for.
You are a godsend. My girlfriend recently has been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s disease and been on a very strict vegan diet. I’ve been looking around for dinner ideas and can’t thank you enough for the help.
This is soooo forking truee!! Haha. And she is right, curry is waaay better thab dried out meatloaf. I remember those meatloaf nights, not in a positive way. Haha.
YES!! A trip to India years ago made me realise I could eat veg without even think about eating meat ever again.
I’m here to thank you for *not* having “background music” in the majority of your videos. I really can’t stand it anymore when all the YouTubers put all that background music behind their information.
And it’s always some variant of “Upbeat Concerto for Ukulele and Xylophone in A Major”
@economicist2011 lol 😂
same i can have a second tab with music if i want to
“Your house smells like curry … when’s dinner?”. I’m English and we as a nation, particularly here in the Midlands, have definitely taken curry into our hearts … and stomachs obviously:).
Although I am on a low oil, low fat, diet segment at the moment I think tonight could be an occasion for an indulgence 😀
You can make curry without coconut oil /fat/cream. Use 2 sprays of what ever neutral oil you use for tempering the spices. And a spoon of butter at the end. It only tastes 80% as good though.
@tansteel Quite so :nods:. I agree that it doesn’t taste as good tho’. Back in my younger days, you used to be able to buy coconut in blocks that you could then grate for use in curries. Haven’t seen it for sale in thirty years sad to say :(.
@Sukerkin haha where I’m from, I get fresh coconuts just outside my home. We do that grating thing for sauces not curries though. All that fat would seriously screw up with my diet so I only eat high calorie dense foods for the most part.
@tansteel You can still buy coconut cream in blocks. If you are near a city, a big supermarket will have it
@MX5 MX5 Thank you for the tip, MX5 … I shall go and investigate when circumstances permit :looks sideways at COVID lockdown restrictions: 🙂
This is honestly one of the best vegan foods I’ve tried, I can’t have rice really or naan/Flatbread so I tried using a low carb cauliflower pizza crust in place of it and it was amazing. Here is how it turned out

Not gonna lie: the editing is delicious. Also, gonna play with this recipe. Thanks! 🙂
You are an “All Star” in the YouTube cooking scene. Excellent productions Dear Lady. CMJ #anabundantlife
one time i was having stomach issues during finals so i just ate sri lankan red lentil curry and rice for like two weeks straight 😅😅
Definitely one of my favourite ‘cheap’ dishes. Just wish my husband could tolerate lentils and beans! 😅
