veganism is a mistake. all of it

Me too! 😄

style revivalist says:

My family and I have been vegan for 8 years and we still learn about new ways, foods, and lifestyle choices that enhance our ethical choices. It’s such a beautiful path we are on. I too love vegan building blocks. You share such good ideas, photography and recipes, thank you.

Rainbow Plant Life says:

That’s so awesome to hear you all have been vegan for 8 years! And yes, it’s an evolution and I am always learning new information and new ways of cooking. Thanks for your lovely comment!

yaydoggies says:

Bibha Pant Joshi says:

What are your b12 sources

SYC says:

@Bibha Pant Joshi You can add, what are your D3 sources, K2 sources, retinol (A) sources, heme iron sources, zinc sources, cholesterol sources. And also how do you avoid high sugar intake, high Omega-6 intake, high phytoestrogen intake, high oxalate intake, and other toxic glycoalkaloids

Johnny Penso says:

@SYC Excellent points. Vegans will say they buy some seaweed for D3, take K2 supplements and think they get zinc from plants and that cholesterol should be avoided at all costs because even 1 part per million will make you die eventually.

natalia mauricio says:

I wish my family would support me more 🙁 I’ve been vegan for over a year and a half now and they still don’t seem to understand nor care to learn but that’s ok like you said it’s a personal decision you make for yourself and everyone has their own journey in life ❤️

Simone Elizabeth says:

I understand that. I went vegan when I was 16 and my moms side of the family was like “why did you go vegan” and always questioned it It always felt like there were judging me. Now, it’s better. I think it just takes time. Hopefully they will support you!

Nathalie says:

I understand exactly how you feel, but please don’t take it too personnaly! Your family, just like mine, is simply too rooted in the way they have been taught, and it is really hard to go against one’s culture/heritage.
I had to turn 40 and had to have a lot of health issues before I turned to veganism. Imagine : granddaughter of a butcher, granddaughter of a farmer producing milk, coming from one of the french regions that produce the most cheese, and living in a place where butter is king. How could I even imagine becoming vegan? XD
So we have to try and be understanding, too. Eventually people will help and empathize, but it can be frustrating, especially when you are hungry! Some others will never empathize – let them be. My father still asks if I want meat… But he also still asks if I want coffee when I have never had a cup in my life. So… LMAO
The key is to bring vegan substitutes that you can easily heat up or add to the served meals. Just ask that they cook veggies or rice/pasta separately from meat or fish. That in itself is a true relief! If they make that effort, then you won’t feel cornered.
It also helps to bring some yummy homemade treats XD – when it’s delicious nobody cares if it’s vegan or not!
I wish you all the best, sending you cheers.

Johnny Penso says:

Do you support them with their food choices?

natalia mauricio says:

@Johnny Penso of course , if it makes them happy at the end of the day that’s all that matters but at the same time I am also concerned when I see health problems caused by foods they eat so I do try to educate them a little but at the end of the day it’s their decision and their choices i cannot force people to change and I just like seeing people happy so that’s all that matters 😊

Rachel Goodkind says:

If you want to win them over, take them to an animal sanctuary and let them meet the animals they eat. Or, make them some delicious meals and they will be amazed that there is no meat within the meal. In any case, believe in what you are doing because it is healthy for you the planet and the animals. Been doing this for over 20 years. peace.

John Early says:

Why does gluten free get enmeshed with vegan? Like, what’s up with that‽ a carnivore diet is gluten free, why should vegans avoid gluten? Obviously people with celiac disease need to avoid gluten, but that’s completely independent of eating meat or not.
More than once I’ve been in a restaurant and asked if they have vegan choices and been told “we have a number of gluten free dishes” and I’m like, “that’s nice but do you have anything made without meat, eggs, or dairy?” and I get a blank stare in return.

Tabitha says:

@Emma Sparks I think also it’s because you can technically be vegan and only eat gluten products/other carbs. Which makes it hard for GF vegans/vegetarians to find meals. I’m personally gluten and dairy free right now and a lot of vegan recipes satisfy both of those requirements. Even if GF is becoming a marketing scheme I at least appreciate it making it easy to find things I didn’t realize I could eat prior! Eating special overpriced gluten free versions of snacks and stuff when many already are is the real scam to me!

Emma Sparks says:

@SYC Many times there actually isn’t a strictly “fixed” menu. Restaurants want to please their guests, and are often very kind and accommodating if you ask respectfully. I’ve seen many menus actually state “Inform your server of any dietary restriction”. That’s so that they are able to accommodate.

HavingFun says:

@Pamela Minor that makes sense. I’m the same way. But you know what, my husband makes awesome French fries in the air fryer. In fact he is making some for me right now as I type this. Yum!

troberts1 says:

@John Early Re “gluten free” juice. It’s been like that for decades. Whenever the food industry learns of a new “bad” thing, food items that have always been free of that thing get labeled with it. Like Hershey’s Chocolate Syrup started to get labeled as “cholesterol free!” when it never contained it to begin with because it never had dairy products in it.

Wulan Pusponegoro says:

Me: do you have anything vegan ?
Waiter: What is vegan ?

Erin Feerick says:

I am just starting a Vegan diet . I’m doing Veganuary and I would love video on the building blocks.

Banana Man says:

Ethical choice, not a diet 😁

HI HEY HELLO says:

@Beth Grant-DeRoos the diet aspect is just as important though or you’ll become malnourished for the animals, it should be taken as seriously.

Beth Grant-DeRoos says:

@HI HEY HELLO but the ‘diet’ needs to be a lifestyle diet NOT what most people see a diet as being, which is something one does to achieve a goal and then they go back to their old ways. To get and stay healthy, to lose weight and keep it off, a plant based lifestyle is something one does for a LIFE time.

hoes mad says:

@HI HEY HELLO uh i think you misunderstood, veganism is a lifestyle not just some diet is what they are trying to say

Johnny Penso says:

Do yourself a favour. Take a night and search “Why I’m no longer vegan” on YT. Listen to these people. That is your future. Bloating brain fog, massive acne, hair falling out, gut issues, bowel issues, weakness, fatigue, contact hunger, constant eating and on and on and on. Everyone gets a vegan honeymoon same as any diet, when you first give up the junk. But it takes months or a couple of years for the deficiencies to set in. You’ll see.

Nicole on EQ says:

I love how being vegan is becoming more and more accessible every day 🤗

Coral Titan says:

@Charisma Girl I think you have poor reading comprehension skills… I can’t do much about that.

Tommy Charles says:

And yet more and more of you quit vegan diet every day. Hmmm….Vegan diet is all fun, games and ego boost until you lose your health.

InfiniteOptimal says:

Nicole on EQ since when was lentils and potatoes and vegetables non accessible???? Lol if you want to eat garbage processed foods instead of a whole foods plant based diet, then go ahead.

Nicole on EQ says:

@InfiniteOptimal ok thanks

John McCullough says:

Thank you for including other countries. As a vegan for almost 4 years that has been my favorite part is trying different recipes from around the world.

John McCullough says:

To be honest I’m a huge fan of anything Asian or Indian. When you follow a non Americanized recipe the flavors seem to be more bold.

Marirose says:

@John McCullough You’re making me crave vegan Indian right now. Yum 🤤

Tanyah Anderson says:

@John McCullough I’m slowly trying to try new Indian dishes! Any recommendations without mushrooms?

hoes mad says:

@Tanyah Anderson dahi baingan, basically fried eggplant topped with vegan yogurt and a masala paste 😋

hoes mad says:

@Tanyah Anderson you can google indian vegetarian dishes and just swap out the dairy for vegan versions

Alana Locke says:

Veganism is growing by the day. My small town here in spain hardly had vegetarian options and now there are way more vegan options almost anywhere. Im so happy

Corvid Moon says:

@Milton Bates ~ Projecting much? Read the sources.

jayme schrader says:

This guy is hilarious lol

Ethical rEVOLution says:

@Corvid Moon Even though most soy and corn and some other grains are fed to farm animals, so animal agriculture is responsible for hundreds fold more small animal and insect deaths. The farmers and primary consumers of conventional agriculture food crops are also non-vegans. If they were all vegan then there would be a lot more people incentivized to work on solutions to prevent any and all harm.

The future is indoor vertical farming. 90-99% less land use. 90-99% less water use. 90-99% less fertilizer use. And *zero* “pesticides”. Some indoor vertical farms can yield crops up to 22 times per year, nonstop, any season, as opposed to 3 times a year outdoors in some climates. And compared to regular land farm of the same size, can produce up to 130 times more produce per year.

It looks like they are going to run out of their nonsense attacks on people who simply choose to boycott some of the most evil industries on earth, sooner or later.

Corvid Moon says:

@Ethical rEVOLution ¬ I love this response, thank you! You’re absolutely right. It’s like the god of the gaps argument for theists against the scientific method, only in this case, it’s carnists projecting to those who advocate for minimal harm. They’ll run out of excuses one day

Ethical rEVOLution says:

@Corvid Moon You know, the priest class in ancient history was the philosopher scientist, and the pursuit of knowledge and truth was the highest virtue. They were the fathers of sciences such as astronomy and mathematics, etc. A monk Gregor Mendel is the father of genetics. A priest Georges Lemaître came up with the theory of the Big Bang and has a few other credits to his name. The ancients were very intelligent, yet atheists smear them as ignorant and illiterate goat herders. Even Stephen Hawking, an atheist himself, noted “The laws of science, as we know them at present, contain many fundamental numbers, like the size of the electric charge of the electron and the ratio of the masses of the proton and the electron. … The remarkable fact is that the values of these numbers seem to have been very finely adjusted to make possible the development of life.”. Atheists will often put their faith in beliefs because they are told something is true, by some authority. Even choosing to believe in theories about a multiverse, dark matter, and many other cosmological fantasies. When people really study things like quantum mechanics and begin to get a grip on some of those ideas, belief in God or some higher power isn’t really a stretch or a leap at all, and actually unifies some theories quite nicely, without any gaps. If you do seek truth, then as it says in Matthew 7:7 “Seek, and ye shall find”. Note the numbers of chapter and verse are nice; and also have meaning. And it doesn’t matter what anyone personally thinks of “numerology” as they understand it, what matters is what the ancients thought, all the way to Pythagoras who found number to be sacred. And “There are more things in heaven and earth, … than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” – Shakespeare

Team Gravey says:

This was very informative and well put together. Yes bring on the vegan building blocks!

ccandrew111 says:

People: “vegans have to cut out gluten”

Seitan: “I might have something to say about that”

AK S says:

@Eduardo Viajero No true. Most people even animals can’t process gluten/wheat. Feed cattle a mix mostly consisting of gluten and it will get sick and eventually die. Enjoy gluten only 1 or 2 days a week. Also, hops are not gluten.

Box Tunnel says:

@Eduardo Viajero I am one of the 1% as a sufferer of Coeliac disease. It’s not a drama for me, it is something that can lead to bowel cancer and osteoporosis at worst, or extremely painful stomach cramps and results that I will not share here. I am very sorry that those of us who suffer from this disease cause you distress.

Actually I’m not sorry.

Cal says:

@Eduardo Viajero hi, another coeliac here. While only 1% of people have Coeliac Disease, it’s genetic so I happen to know more people with it than most. Many other family members, for starters. It might be ‘drama’ for you, but it’s a serious issue for us.

Cal says:

@Box Tunnel another coeliac here! I know how frustrating it is to have people try to minimise our condition and make jokes about a gluten free diet. Sending strength!

Michelle J says:

LOL. I make my seitan at home (Viva Vegan by Terry Romero), and it tastes so much better than storebought. I make four loaves at a time, is yummy.

Rainbow Plant Life says:

Seems like a lot of you are interested in building blocks! You can get a taste of that in this 8-ingredient vegan meal prep video 🙂 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=coks7z2lltA&t=737s

Katharine Reynolds says:

Yes! Please get saucy 😄

Maya Schrieb says:

yes, me too I am interested

Michelle J says:

I found that video first, and so I’ve got my brussels roasted, rice pilaf made, white bean hummus done, and my butternuts are cooling. I recognize that must have been a complex video/meal plan to make but I’d be very interested in more like that!

Batbara Sobczak says:

Are you using dermal facial filters. ??

Anti - Ethnic Cleansing says:

@Rainbow Plant Life
That face covering you’re wearing in the store is _sooooo_ bad for you (and is absolutely useless in preventing the transmission of any virus).

Stella Tsah says:

im vegeterian but planning on incorporating more vegan foods in my diet when i move out . nice video loved the editing!

Ilhaam Jiwaji says:

Same!

Michelle J says:

Me three. I just want to eat plants.

Boxerdog Mum says:

I would say do it slowly, over a few months. I tried to do it quickly and got stressed out for a month. Now I’m finding it easy, but I wish I’d made the change a bit more gradually.

Katherine Petersorf says:

I’d never eaten a lentil until I started moving from vegetarian to vegan, but now they’re my main protein. I love them so much. And they cost nearly nothing.

Eduardo Viajero says:

its just exciting to explore new proteins. there are so much i have to try. so these exciting times.

Katherine Petersorf says:

@Eduardo Viajero Lentils are great. Especially slow cooked or Insta pot cooked 😋 Tempe, Ground cooked black beans, and pea pistachio nutritional yeast pesto are really good proteins too 🥰

Simone Elizabeth says:

Veganism has opened the doors to so many new foods. Prior to veganism I was very picky, now I’ll pretty much try anything. I remember someone telling me they were vegan and I said I could never eliminate meat and animal byproducts and that I wouldn’t eat tofu, lentils, or beans. Now I am 2 1/2 years strong and eat those food daily and I can’t be happier. It was the best decision I’ve ever made.

Katherine Petersorf says:

@Simone Elizabeth I wasn’t too picky before starting the transition of removing animal products, but I do feel more confident eating now. I use to always worry things would make me sick from being undercooked so I’d just avoid eating it, now I fear nothing – except if it has one of the two things I’m allergic to that are plants.

Simone Elizabeth says:

@Katherine Petersorf I am the same way. Even if something is undercooked I’m like “ good enough, I mean it’s just plants” haha

Curmudgeonhero says:

Thank you for this. I’ve been vegan for three weeks, and I feel great. In 2018, I had three back-to-back heart attacks. Last week my doctor said I could stop taking all seven of my heart medications. After decades of struggle, I’m finally making real progress.

Johnny Penso says:

Bollocks. No doctor is his right mind would take someone off 7 medications overnight based on a 3 week diet change.

vera k says:

I truly wish it could be true. Stopping serious medication after a heart attack over night just because of a plant based diet… just imagine the effect this would have on health care.

Curmudgeonhero says:

@vera k My blood pressure dropped to a nearly dangerously low level. I spoke to my cardiologist at length. After discontinuing the medications, my blood pressure returned to a normal level. It has remained at the level since I made the change.

vera k says:

This is great, congratulations!! 🥳 I hope your levels stay normal and you keep your healthier lifestyle!

Johnny Penso says:

@vera k It’s misinformation. There’s no doubt that any diet, be it vegan, vegetarian, keto, carnivore etc. that focuses on *whole foods* only is going to produce positive outcomes. The main issues contributing to metabolic disease are twofold – processed carbohydrates & seed oils (in the context of processed carbohydrates). The literature is clear on this. Every diet that drops processed carbohydrates & seed oils is successful in reducing or eliminating metabolic disease, full stop. The long term effects of each pathyway are a different kettle of fish altogether but as in intervention, whole foods are the way forward.

But to stop 7 heart medications in one week is nothing but propaganda and that doesn’t help anyone.

JadeThirlWales says:

Today is my 4th day being vegan and I’m sat here eating a ketchup sandwich and salt and vinegar crisps 😂 …..I have to wait until pay day to buy proper food

Ellie Z. says:

Been vegan for 7 years now. Sending to my girlfriend who is now becoming vegan.

Яница Димова says:

Heysy, I just wanted to add that Kombucha provides with B12 and is extremely healthy and tasty. It is top drink to support gut flora

Embla Reiff says:

I just found your channel and I’m absolutely obsessed with you, your message, everything! I feel like you’re exactly the kind of advocate the vegan world needs

Rainbow Plant Life says:

aww thank you! I appreciate that and so glad you’re enjoying my channel ☺
